Barcelona - Quimet y Quimet

This perfect place is in Poble Sec. If you're coming from the general Ramblas/Gothic area, you stroll along Carrer St. Pau until you come out near the Paral.lel metro station. Or just get the train to here. It's just down a little side street off the main drag. The NY Times did a feature on them a while back so all the info you need is here.

The main thing to do is of course to go there. We arrived just as it was opening for lunch, which is a good idea, as the place is tiny. The woman working there wa sreally helpful, and explained the workings of the place to us. You either order montados, which are selections from the food stacked up on bread, or like we did, you can get her to make you a selection/surtido as she sees fit. Everything was so delcious. The bread plate alone would give most places a run for their money.

Pan.

This was the smoked fish platter. Smoked cod, tuna, mojama. Fava beans, and the stuff in the bottom right corner is sweet tomato jam. Probably the best thing we ate in all of Barcelona.

They sell a huge variety of great local wines too. And posh imports as well. We ate our lunch beside the 500 euro Tokays from Hungary. Tehy were beside the 5 euro bottles from down the street.

And they make their own beer too. Next time.

This was the fish and vegetable selection. They specialise in conservas, which are the best of ingredients preserved or marinated or pickled. Here there is a slab of delicious tuna, sundried tomatoes, onions, artichokes, leeks, anchovies, olives.

And the forest plate. Fois gras, jamón, chestnuts, sweet onion confit, forest pate, wild mushrooms. Just delicious. Super rich, but we managed.

Just a wee hole in the wall. Search and find.
